Ask for a set recorded at an event similar in size and mood to yours — a DJ who is excellent at a 200-person club night is not automatically right for a 60-guest garden reception. Check the genre range: most DJs cover Bollywood and Punjabi comfortably, but hip-hop, EDM, retro and regional requests vary a lot between artists. Confirm whether they bring their own console, mixer and lighting, or expect the venue to provide it, since this is a common source of last-minute cost.
